“A farmers’ market loved by the local community”
Farmers’ Market Miyako Atarasu Market began in December 2005 as the “Atarasu City Agricultural Product Direct Sales Training Center” and was officially rebranded as Atarasu Market in December 2006, marking its first anniversary with a full renewal. The word “Atarasu” means “beloved” or “precious” in the Miyako dialect, and true to its name, the market is cherished by the local community.

Local Specialties and a Wide Product Selection
Atarasu Market offers a variety of Miyakojima-grown specialties such as nankou (a local variety of pumpkin), winter melon, and mangoes. In summer, the market is bustling with locals and tourists alike shopping for fresh Miyako-grown mangoes. Handcrafted miso made by the JA women’s group, using domestically grown soybeans, is also a customer favorite for its safety and rich flavor.

Fresh Produce Unique to Miyakojima
One of the market’s biggest draws is the availability of fresh island produce like bananas and mangoes at affordable prices. These fruits and vegetables, nurtured by Miyakojima’s rich natural environment, are offered at reasonable prices for all to enjoy.

Handmade Island Dishes and Deli Foods
The market also features a wide range of homemade island-style dishes, such as sata andagi (Okinawan donuts), bento boxes, and fish tempura. Local rice balls like juushi onigiri are perfect for a quick, tasty, and affordable meal or snack during your stay.

Local Products and Souvenirs
Located close to Miyako Airport, Atarasu Market also functions like a roadside rest station, offering a large selection of local specialties and produce. Items like sugarcane and other Miyako-grown products make excellent souvenirs.

Convenient Location
Atarasu Market is just a short drive from Miyako Airport, making it an easy stop during your travels. It’s the perfect place to enjoy fresh local produce and delicious ready-made foods.
