Miyako Jofu Nishihara Weaving Studio

“A workshop and shop where the tradition and craftsmanship of Miyako Jofu live on. Discover a special handmade piece that reflects the beauty of hand-weaving and the culture of Miyako Island.”

Miyako Jofu Nishihara Weaving Studio is a combined workshop and shop operated by skilled artisans who have been weaving Miyako Jofu for over 40 years. Known as one of the finest handwoven textiles for summer kimono fabric, Miyako Jofu is celebrated for its delicate beauty and cool, airy texture.

In addition to traditional Miyako Jofu, the shop also offers a variety of other weaves, including Miyako Asaori made from processed hemp thread, and Miyako Ori, which combines cotton and silk for a unique finish. These variations provide a wide range of choices for different tastes and uses.

Beyond fabrics, you’ll also find an array of items such as neckties, indigo-dyed Kariyushi wear (Okinawan-style shirts), and handbags—perfect as souvenirs or thoughtful gifts. Staff also kindly explain how to care for and wash your purchases, making it beginner-friendly even for first-time buyers.

For those interested in traditional crafts, the studio also offers hands-on weaving experiences with Miyako Jofu and Miyako Ori—an invaluable opportunity to feel the cultural heritage of Miyako Island up close. Don’t miss the chance to take home a piece that embodies the island’s artistry and spirit.
