Nanamata Coast is a fault coastline located west of Higashi-Hennazaki on Miyako Island, characterized by dramatic uplifted coral cliffs that reach approximately 30 meters in height. This coastline is popular not only for its dynamic natural beauty but also as a scenic driving route where visitors can truly feel the power of nature.
Along the coast, you’ll find the Muigā Cliff, which features an observation deck. From this vantage point, you can enjoy sweeping views that stretch from Nanamata Coast all the way to Higashi-Hennazaki. The grand scenery leaves a lasting impression on all who visit. However, please note that the staircase to the observatory is quite steep, so be cautious as you ascend or descend.
Below the Muigā Cliff is a natural spring called “Muigā,” which was historically used as a drinking water source by local residents. People used to climb down the cliff to collect this precious water, making it an essential part of daily life. Even today, the site quietly tells the story of its past.
