Among the many spiritual sites (power spots) on Miyako Island, Ogami Island stands out as one of the most sacred. This small island is revered as “the island where the gods reside,” and its rich natural beauty and mysterious atmosphere captivate all who visit.

Overview of Ogami Island
Located northeast of Miyako Island, Ogami Island is part of the Miyako Islands and sits about 4 kilometers from the main island. As of 2016, it had a population of only 26 residents. Despite its small size, the island is dotted with mystical spots that leave a lasting impression on visitors.

Highlights
Notch Rock Formations
Along the island’s coastline, you’ll find uniquely shaped rocks known as “notches,” which resemble trees or mushrooms. These formations were created as rocks rolled down from the island’s uplift and were slowly eroded at the base by waves over time. They stand as natural works of art shaped by the forces of nature.

Observation Deck
At the top of the island’s central hill, about 75 meters above sea level, lies the “Tōmidai” observation deck. On clear days, you can enjoy sweeping views of the stunning Miyako Blue sea, as well as Miyako Island and Ikema Island in the distance. However, please note that the area is closed to the public during the sacred “Uyagan” rituals, which take place from the 7th to the 12th month of the lunar calendar.

Access to Ogami Island
There is no bridge connecting Ogami Island, and access by car is not possible. Visitors must take a ferry from Shimajiri Port on Miyako Island. Ferry schedule is as follows:
