Located next to the port on Tarama Island, Ukaba Beach is an ideal destination for those looking to spend peaceful, relaxing time. The beach lies between Miyako Island and Ishigaki Island, situated about 67 km west of Miyako. Tarama Island is a small, flat island with a population of around 1,350, surrounded by untouched sandy shores that offer stunning natural scenery.
Ukaba Beach stretches for about 1 kilometer along the eastern side of Maedomari Port, where the ferry from Miyako arrives. The beach is known for its white sand, clear waters, and a long-reaching coral reef. The gentle waves and natural setting make it a quiet and inviting spot. Walking along the beach to collect seashells is one of the simple pleasures here. There are no restrooms or shade facilities, but this adds to its unspoiled beauty. Access
Approx. 2 hours by ferry from Hirara Port on Miyako Island. From Maedomari Port on Tarama Island, it’s about 1.3 km or a 5-minute drive.
