Ryugu Observatory is a three-story structure built in the image of the mythical Ryugu Castle, featuring a unique and eye-catching design. Located atop the highest hill on Kurima Island at an elevation of 60 meters, the observatory offers sweeping views of lush sugarcane fields, Miyako Island across the water, the Kurima Bridge, and even Irabu Island. Most impressive of all is the panoramic view of the pure white powder sands of Maehama Beach blending beautifully with the cobalt-blue sea.
Since the view differs from each level, it’s recommended to enjoy the scenery gradually—starting from the first floor, then the second, before heading up to the third floor—for a full visual experience.
This observatory is one of the must-visit sightseeing spots when traveling to Miyako Island and is also known as one of the island’s spiritual “power spots.”
