In the southern part of Miyakojima, a new sightseeing spot has emerged at the Ueno German Culture Village. “Heart Rock,” located just offshore from the Hotel Breeze Bay Marina, has officially been selected as a “Lover’s Sanctuary” by the Regional Revitalization Support Center, drawing increasing attention from couples and travelers.

Heart Rock is a natural wonder formed by the uplift of coral reefs, a unique feature of Miyakojima’s landscape. With a heart-shaped hollow in its center, the rock seems to symbolize love itself. It appears only during low tide, adding a mysterious charm. While the heart-shaped rock at Ikizu Beach on Ikema Island is already well-known, this one can be viewed more conveniently from a promenade at the Ueno German Culture Village.

In celebration of its designation as a Lover’s Sanctuary, a heart-shaped monument and a “Bell of Love” have been installed within the park. Even when Heart Rock is not visible, visitors can still enjoy a romantic atmosphere. Couples hang padlocks to pledge their eternal love and ring the bell to express wishes for a successful relationship or marriage.

This location is also steeped in history — in 1873, a German merchant ship was shipwrecked here, and the crew was rescued by the people of Miyakojima, embodying a spirit of compassion and hospitality. It’s a fitting place to declare your love, surrounded by warmth and legacy.
Create a lasting memory at this Lover’s Sanctuary.
Make it part of your Miyakojima trip and experience a moment of love you’ll never forget.
