Kurima Island, accessible by car from Miyako Island, is a small paradise filled with crystal-clear seas and lush nature. The island is dotted with scenic viewpoints, peaceful beaches, and local cafes and eateries where you can savor the island’s flavors—perfect for enjoying a relaxing island time.

This model course takes you from Miyako Island to Kurima Island, introducing a route where you can fully enjoy the unique charm of Kurima through scenic spots and delicious local meals. Whether you’re driving or walking, take your time and enjoy a truly special experience.

1. MAEHAMA RURAL PARK – TAKE A COMMEMORATIVE PHOTO OF THE BEAUTIFUL SEA OF MIYAKOJIMA AND KURIMA BRIDGE 📸

Before heading to Kurima Island, stop by Maehama Rural Park on Miyako Island. This park is located right next to Maehama Beach, known as one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. From the back of the park, you can walk down to the beach and enjoy a diagonal view of the Kurima Bridge.

The contrast between the white sandy beach, the crystal-clear Miyako Blue sea, and the Kurima Bridge stretching above is truly breathtaking. Take a photo here to mark the beginning of your journey. If you have time, taking a walk along the shore is also highly recommended.

2. KURIMA BRIDGE – CROSSING THE MIYAKO BLUE SEA 🌉

Leaving Maehama Rural Park behind, it’s finally time to cross Kurima Bridge. Spanning 1,690 meters, this bridge opened in 1995 and serves as an important connection between Miyako Island and Kurima Island.

As you drive across the bridge, you’ll feel as if you’re gliding over the stunning Miyako Blue ocean. On sunny days, the sea’s gradient becomes even more breathtaking—so much so that you’ll want to stop and admire the view. Since there are no parking spaces on the bridge, be sure to enjoy the scenery later from the observation deck.

3. OCTOPUS PARK – JUST ACROSS KURIMA BRIDGE 🐙 LOOK FOR THE TRAFFIC SAFETY SIGN

Just after crossing Kurima Bridge, you’ll notice a traffic safety sign on your left—this marks the entrance to Taco Park! From the bridge, you can also spot a bright red boiled-octopus-like sculpture on the left. The path to Taco Park is a pleasant walk through a sun-dappled trail, surrounded by subtropical plants. After about 10 minutes through this jungle-like path, you’ll arrive at the park.

Inside the park, there is a gazebo where you can take a break while enjoying the ocean view. If you follow the small path in the park, it will lead you down to “Tako Park Lower Beach.” This hidden beach is surrounded by cliffs and features crystal-clear waters where you can often spot small fish swimming. However, since it’s a quiet and less crowded area, please be extra cautious for your safety.

4. MATSUNOKI OBSERVATION DECK – A HIDDEN SCENIC SPOT ON KURIMA ISLAND 🌿

Located near the entrance of Kurima Island, the “Matsunoki Observation Deck” is a unique lookout point inspired by Ryukyu pine trees. From here, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Kurima Bridge and Yonaha Maehama Beach, all in a calm and peaceful atmosphere.

To reach the observation deck, turn right at the intersection just before entering the village and follow the narrow road—it’s just ahead. Near the observation deck, you’ll find a torii gate, and beyond it is a sacred site known as an “Utaki.” Please be respectful and observe quietly from a distance, as it is a sacred place.

Next to the observation deck, there is a steep stone staircase along the cliffside. In the past, people used this staircase to descend to a well known as “Kurima Gaa.” However, as it has collapsed, please refrain from entering for safety reasons.

5. RYUGU OBSERVATION DECK – A PANORAMIC VIEW OF MAEHAMA BEACH AND THE COBALT BLUE SEA

The three-story observation deck, inspired by Ryugu Castle, stands out with its unique appearance. Located on a hill 60 meters above sea level—the highest point on Kurima Island—it offers panoramic views of Miyako Island, Kurima Bridge, and Irabu Island. The breathtaking contrast between the white sandy Maehama Beach and the cobalt blue sea is especially impressive.

Each floor offers a different scenic view, so it’s recommended to enjoy the changing landscapes as you ascend from the first to the second and third floors. Known as a spiritual spot for love and good relationships, it attracts many visitors. When you visit Miyako Island, be sure to stop by and enjoy the stunning views and relaxing atmosphere.

8. MARUKAMI – OKINAWA SOBA, PERFECT FOR LUNCH ON KURIMA ISLAND

Okinawa Soba Marukami – A Recommended Lunch Spot on Kurima Island, Featuring Homemade Fresh Noodles and Flavorful Bonito Broth.

This popular Okinawa soba restaurant on Kurima Island serves authentic noodles crafted with homemade fresh noodles, rich bonito broth, tender pork belly, and soft bone-in pork ribs—all meticulously prepared. Owner Tatsunori Uechi, who has over 20 years of experience as a French chef, opened the restaurant in 2020 on “Okinawa Soba Day” after traveling around Japan to explore Okinawa soba. The restaurant is housed in his grandfather’s renovated home.

The signature “Marukami Soba” features thick slices of pork belly and large, tender pork cartilage ribs. You can choose between straight or wavy noodles. The broth is exceptional, made with two kinds of shaved bonito and fish powder for a rich, umami-packed flavor. Unusually for Okinawa soba, extra noodles are also available.
Loved by both locals and tourists, this bowl is a must-try.

9. PANI PANI – ENJOY THE TROPICAL VIBES AT THIS POPULAR CAFÉ ON KURIMA ISLAND
