The origin of the Snow Salt Museum began in 2000 when a salt mill was built in the Kaminata area. The name of snow salt spread and the number of visitors increased. In response, the present Snow Salt Museum was established in October 2002 to accommodate factory tours.

“Myaka” is a stone tomb unique to Miyako Island that surrounds the stone chamber from all sides with a large limestone cut into rectangles and puts a lidstone on it. This form can only be found on Miyakojima Island among the Ryukyu Islands, and it is now conveying the unique funeral culture of the region.
