~Triangle Point and Iguana Rock Area to be Completely Closed from August 1, 2024~
Miyako Island is renowned worldwide for its stunning natural beauty and breathtaking landscapes.
However, among these natural formations, there are locations that, despite their beauty, pose significant dangers.
In particular, from August 1, 2024, access to Triangle Point and Iguana Rock Area will be completely prohibited.
This important measure is intended to protect the safety of visitors and preserve the island’s natural environment.

We kindly ask all visitors to respect the rules, cherish Miyako Island’s natural wonders, and enjoy a safe and pleasant journey.
1. Sunayama Beach Arch Rock (Hirara, Miyakojima City)
A Natural Arch Where Beauty and Danger Coexist
Sunayama Beach is a popular destination known for its white sand dunes and crystal-clear waters.
One of its symbols is the naturally formed stone arch beyond the dunes.
However,
- Years of weathering from wind and rain,
- The impact of powerful typhoons,
- Micro-tremors caused by earthquakes
have weakened the internal structure of the arch, making it highly prone to collapse.
Currently, entry underneath the arch is prohibited, and warning signs have been installed.
Please be aware:
- Do not enter under the arch or touch the rock.
- Enjoy the beauty of this natural formation from a safe distance.
It is important not to assume that “it’s fine because it hasn’t collapsed yet.”
Accidents can happen at any time.

2. Triangle Point (Irabu, Miyakojima City)
Complete Access Prohibition from August 1, 2024
A Spectacular View Hiding Great Risks
Triangle Point was once a hidden gem known to experienced travelers.
However, the reality is that the area presents serious dangers such as:
- Sheer cliffs facing the ocean,
- Fragile ground prone to collapse,
- Strong gusts of wind blowing through the area.
There have already been incidents of visitors losing balance or rocks collapsing due to strong winds.
Due to these risks, access to the area will be completely prohibited from August 1, 2024.
Please be aware:
- Do not enter areas marked off with ropes or warning signs.
- Even approaching the edge can result in accidents due to sudden gusts of wind.
If you wish to enjoy the spectacular views of Triangle Point,
it is recommended to appreciate them through drone footage or photographs.

3. Iguana Rock (Irabu, Miyakojima City)
Complete Access Prohibition from August 1, 2024
Hidden Dangers Behind a Unique Rock Formation
Named “Iguana Rock” for its resemblance to an iguana,
this unique rock has attracted countless visitors.
However,
- The ground around it is very unstable,
- The area is surrounded by steep cliffs,
- The ground has become increasingly fragile,
making it impossible to guarantee safety.
Thus, from August 1, 2024, entry to the area will be completely prohibited.
Please be aware:
- Even for taking photos, please use a zoom lens from a safe distance.
- Always remember that a moment of carelessness can lead to a serious accident.

Why is Access Prohibited?
- The natural environment of islands cannot be completely controlled by humans.
- The access prohibition is based on past accident cases and thorough risk assessment for the future.
- The mindful actions of each visitor are crucial in protecting the future of Miyako Island.
