Tourist Spots
Irabu Bridge
Connecting Miyako Island and Irabu Island, this 3,540-meter-long bridge opened on January 31, 2015. It is the longest toll-free bridge in Japan. The bridge greatly improved access to Irabu Island, and the view of the ocean from the bridge is spectacular—perfect for a scenic drive.

Sawada Beach
Selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Beaches, Sawada Beach is especially popular for its beautiful sunsets. Large rocks scattered across the sea create a mysterious and unique landscape. These rocks, called “tsunami stones,” are said to be chunks of coral reefs carried by tsunamis triggered by earthquakes. This beach is a favorite among tourists and couples.

Toguchi Beach
Located on the southern side of Irabu Island, this curved white-sand beach stretches about 800 meters long and 50 meters wide. Its crystal-clear waters are some of the most famous in Okinawa. Even without diving, you can spot tropical fish swimming around, allowing you to fully enjoy the beauty of nature.

Toriike Pond
Located on Irabu Island, Toriike consists of two large and small ponds with diameters of 75m and 55m, and depths of 45m and 25m respectively. Though they appear separate from above, they are connected by an underwater tunnel. This is a popular spot among divers, known for its natural, artistic beauty. It is designated as a national scenic and natural monument.

Obi Rock
Obi Rock is a massive natural rock located on Shimoji Island. It is said to have been carried there by the tsunami of 1771. Its overwhelming size and presence captivate visitors. It also serves as a sacred prayer spot for local fishermen, who pray there for bountiful catches.

Shimojishima Airport
Famous as a training site for commercial aircraft, Shimojishima Airport is a popular attraction for aviation enthusiasts and families. Visitors can watch planes take off and land up close and enjoy the thrill of the experience.

Nakanoshima Beach
Located on the southwest coast of Shimoji Island, Nakanoshima Beach is also known as Kayaffa Beach. With coral reefs and a variety of tropical fish, it is known as a “natural aquarium,” and is popular with not only tourists but also divers and snorkelers.

Makiyama Observatory
The highest point on Irabu Island, this observatory is shaped like a gray-faced buzzard (Sashiba). It offers panoramic views of Irabu Bridge, Miyako Island, and, on clear days, even Ikema Island and Kurima Island, making it a popular scenic spot.

Shinbizi
A staircase in Irabu Island that leads down to the sea, known for its picturesque setting. Its cinematic beauty makes it worth a visit.

17END
Best visited during spring tides, when stunning white sandbars emerge as the tide recedes. The breathtaking scenery makes it a must-see location.

Funau Sagi Banata
This was once the site of a giant Sashiba-shaped observatory. Although the observatory is no longer there, visitors can still feel its historical significance.

Triangulation Point
Previously a popular scenic spot, this location is now closed to the public. From the cliff, one could enjoy spectacular views of the crystal-clear Miyako sea, which were as overwhelming as they were beautiful.

Iguana Rock
True to its name, this uniquely shaped rock resembles an iguana. Once popular among tourists, the area is now closed to the public. Like the Triangulation Point, it offered stunning views of the clear sea from a dramatic cliffside.

Irabu Island is a captivating travel destination where you can enjoy both beautiful nature and a wealth of activities. Take your time exploring scenic spots and enjoy a relaxing getaway.
